It has hard to find a square foot of PUBLIC which isn’t photogenic. The impeccably designed hotel seduces you from the streets of New York through its lush garden entrance, up its well-known warmly lit escalator, and into one of its carefully appointed rooms. Once inside, Schrager’s thoughtful design is apparent. He likens the cozy, white-oak  The rooms are efficient works of art, seemingly every detail has been paid attention to. Late-morning sleepers will fall in love with the press-of-a-button blackout curtains and comfy beds.

But this is New York City and you won’t be spending your whole stay inside your room (not that we would judge if you did). Where PUBLIC continues to shine is in its gathering spaces. The ground floor offers a sumptuous bar and cafe with a great selection of casual eats, the perfect space to get some work done or meet friends. On the same floor nestled behind a wall of plants is Popular, where chef Diego Munoz’s creations can be enjoyed in a lush, almost tropical setting evocative of Saint Tropez.

There’s another, even larger gathering space on the next floor up replete with a pool table, bar, and meeting rooms, but the crown jewel at PUBLIC is the rooftop which often plays host to a who’s who of New York culture. Hotel guests receive priority entrance privileges to this competitive spot.
